Cartoonist turns his passion into a book
With that said and done, though, life in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom isn't always an easy place to live. The weather and the economy is often less than ideal, but most of us who live here, have learned not only to survive, but thrive. But sometimes that requires a resort to humor, poking fun at our own lives to make the challenges a bit more tolerable. Skip Sedore, an adept cartoonist who lives in Craftsbury, recently published a book of his homegrown cartoons. The book is entitled “Wicked Good Humor”, and is filled with Sedore's cartoons. His cartoons provide a lighthearted look at life around him, including life in the Northeast Kingdom, and he does so without stooping to make a mockery of our rural culture and its people. Skip is certainly one of the most accomplished cartoonists to call the Kingdom home. “ I love language, and the humor of Thurber and Ogden Nash and others who had a similar outlook on things as I have”, Skip explained to me. “I have always seen the world differently and it s4eems my cartoons make folks happy. I don't have much else to give and after raising six kids, a good sense of humor will always get you through. Life can be hard and my hope is that some of my humor helps to ease it.” Although Skip, who has lived in Vermont for the last 17 years, is native to New Jersey, this lifelong Vermonter can honestly say that his cartoons truly capture the flavor of Vermont's last frontier, Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. Great job Skip. Keep the Kingdom laughing. We need all the humor you can dish out these days. The book is sold in area stores, or order from skip Skip Sedore, 110 East Craftsbury Road, Craftsbury, VT 05826. A potion of each sale will benefit The Common Place, a non-profit supporting arts and learning in the Craftsbury area. Scott Wheeler, Newport Daily Express, December 30, 2009 |
